Easy windshield question 200 1986

There's a little rust showing around the bottom corners of my windshield, and I'd like to take care of it once the dry weather arrives. What I'm curious about is if simply yanking the windshield trim to get at it would cause any trouble. I'm planning to replace the glass anyways, and I'm assuming that new trim should be available at the same time.
So does this make sense?
