No Charge, lack of 'Idiot Lights' 700 1989

Howdy,

I've replaced an alternator that tested bad and the idiot lights are absent when the key is in the run position. The only lights that come on are ABS, Oil,SRS and Seatbelt. If my memory serves me well, the Service and Battery lights are supposed to show at start-up and they don't. Bottom line is my alternator is not charging.

Prior to tearing into the dash and removing the instrument cluster, is there a way to diagnosewhether it's the bulb or the wiring??

Any assistance is much appreciated...........
