I have a 164 with a nasty vibration probably at the rear.
Before I’ve even driven an inch with the car I installed a set of KYB shockabsorbers rear only.

I thought it was due to the light alloys (240 turbo, not very straight), so I bought a set of steel wheels and had a new set of tires installed. Result Problem still there.

Symptoms:

The frequency feels like it is the wheel frequency

I start to feel it above 100km/h

It is worse going uphill, almost gone going downhill, gone when braking.

In first gear at full throttle I feel the transmission shaft vibrating.
But I guess the transmission shaft would have a 3x higher rpm than the wheels.

I don’t feel it in the steeringwheel, but not beining a Mc Pherson front I don’t know if a inbalance in the front would be felt in the steeringwheel.

I feel it only after driving a while, so I suspect there is a temperature relation.

I don’t feel play in the rearwheel bearings.



Could it be a bearing warming up, creating too much play and the “wheel shudder”?

Could it be worn front shocks, that can’t be felt in the steeringwheel?
