I don't want my turbo, I'd rather have the mileage/lower maintenance 700 1990

I am interested in finding out how big of a deal it is to "downgrade" my turbo to N/A on a 1990 740 wagon. Ideally I'd find someone who wanted to trade the other way, I suppose. I am driving a lot and would rather have the improved mpg and not have to worry about maintaining the turbo. Anyone have a sense for what a shop might charge for this or how involved it is to do yourself?
