Over the years, my wufe got comfortable with Volvos, driving the '86 240. Although I've managed to keep in in pretty good shape, it is getting a little "long in the tooth". Luckily for me, she found silver 940's appealing, so now I can feed my habit maintaining her '93 940 turbo. I was also lucky that she got sentimental about the old beast, (hell, I got it in '89; it's been around almost as long as my kids!) and she decided to keep it around and only drive the 940 in the summer. I must admit it would have hurt to sell off the thing after personally rebuilding the entire suspension, doing heater fan, etc.
The new ride is in need of some good new rubber though, so I was hoping someone could recommend a good tire for it. I was thinking that a Touring or Grand Touring tire would be the way to go - safe, smooth and quiet running - I don't think high performance is an issue, the way she'll be driving it. Stock size is 195/65/15.
I was really happy with the stock Goodyear RS/A's on my Oldmobile Intrigue, but it was a company car at the time and they wouldn't spring for the almost $900 CDN I was quoted to replace them. Since the RS/A's are considered High Perforamance (at least at Tire Rack), and I've seen a lot of praise for the Yokohame Avid Touring, I figured I'd match class with the Yokohama V4S. I found the ride a bit harsh though, compared to the RS/A's. The V4S's are wearing a lot on the outside edges on the Intrigue, running recommended tire pressure (31 lbs), so I've jacked them up to 35 now. If I had it to do over again, I'd go with the smoother ride of the Avid Touring.
Also, has anyone got experience with Hankook? (I can get them wholesale).
