Frodo Lives !! 200

Well I had been having real problems with my 83 240 with 300K. I am the original owner and bought the car new 23 years ago. My local independent volvo repair shop worked on it for two weeks on and off and the car came back worse than when it went in. Their solution was for me to sell them the car for parts - you can imagine my response and I had it towed home. After asking a bunch of questions here , I decided to take my time troubleshooting every inch of the car. It took me another six weeks but I went through all of the possible issues with tha car, and finally have it running well. Here's what I did thanks to your suggestions, replaced original main fuel pump and filter, replaced both pump relays - they were intermittent. Replaced the intake hose, it was cracked. replaced the hall position sensor, tested the CIS ,AIM,Throttle switch, fuel regulator they were was ok. Adjusted the idle stop - they had it cranked up to about 3000 rpm !!! Oh yeah I almost forgot, I also had a real bad head gasket. Instead of spending about $1,200 on a new head gasket replacement at a shop. I took the head to a little auto machine shop and got it pressure and dye tested and re-surfaced for $65. With the gaskets, I spent about $125 total on this job. Now the car runs like a top thanks to all of your advice. I've named my car Frodo. Since I have drive to work like everyone else, I had to get a new Volvo in the interim. Problem is, I don't drive it much now that Frodo is running so well. Frodo Lives !!
