I just signed up with the site but still have not received my password via e-mail at the time of this writing. This is my 3rd Volvo in life and I have not really known alot about Volvos technically. I am learning though. I just purchased this car and wanted to post a list of the things done to it and see if any of you pros can recomend anything or advise me on anything that you may forsee needing attention. Here is the list of things done:


K&N air filter: It has had regular cleanings and oilings.

Bilstein shocks & struts.

IPD anti-sway bars.

IPD overload springs.

IPD polyurethane bushings.

The following is a list of all maintenance for which I have paper records:


11/24/2004 – Lube, oil & filter change.

9/28/2004 – Replaced fuel filter, air mass sensor, and windshield squirter nozzles. Adjusted V-belts.

9/17/2004 – Cleaned battery connections. Removed and cleaned throttle body.

9/9/2004 – Removed and replaced transmission selector shaft seals and pan gasket.

8/16/2004 – Lube, oil & filter change.

2/19/2004 – Lube, oil & filter change.

10/3/2003 – Removed transmission, replaced all gaskets and seals (listed in paperwork), replaced tail shaft bushing, replaced rear main engine seal, adjusted kickdown cable, replaced & rewired overdrive solenoid, replaced starter flexplate. Lube, oil & filter change

9/5/2003 – Lube, oil & filter change.

6/27/2003 – All three U-joints replaced in driveline, replaced carrier bearing, replaced support bushing & locknuts. Throttle body removed and cleaned, gasket replaced. Injectors removed and cleaned. Lower control arm bushings replaced (listed in paperwork). Replaced fuel pressure regulator. Headlight protectors installed (one remaining intact). Lube, oil & filter change.

4/21/2003 – Lube, oil & filter change.

1/8/2003 – Left rear lamp assembly connectors cleaned & serviced. Lube, oil & filter change.

12/8/2002 – Four new Michelin X-Radial all-season tires installed at 196k miles with 80k mile warranty from Costco.

8/1/2002 – Complete tune-up, serviced and cleaned K&N air filter, set valves/timing. Replaced wax stat and housing. Lube, oil & filter change.

5/9/2002 – Lube, oil & filter change.

4/16/2002 – Lube, oil & filter change.

3/16/2002 – Windshield rock chip repair.

3/4/2002 – Lube, oil & filter change.

1/11/2002 – Replaced radiator with upgraded one, replaced upper/lower radiator hoses, replaced thermostat housing. Front-end alignment and tire rotation. Rear brake rotors and pads replaced. Front struts/rear shocks replaced. Lube, oil & filter change.

10/1/2001 – Lube, oil & filter change.

7/20/2001 – Replaced catalytic converter. Replaced front brake rotors, calipers, and pads. Removed, cleaned and repacked wheel bearings with fresh grease. Transmission cooler lines rerouted. Lube, oil & filter change.

5/15/2001 – Lube, oil & filter change.

3/8/2001 – Speedo seals replaced. Tire rotation/balance. Alternator ground wire and brush pack/regulator replaced and contacts cleaned. Transmission mount replaced. Shifter bushing replaced. Lube, oil & filter change.

1/25/2001 – Timing belt and tensioner replaced. Air intake tube replaced. Distributor rotor replaced. Breather system inspected/cleaned, one vacuum line replaced. Replaced spark plugs. Water pump replaced. Engine cleaned of carbon from combustion chamber. New muffler kit installed. Pre-heater hose replaced.

1/3/2001 – Heater fan and related parts replaced. Heater control valve replaced. Odometer removed and repaired. Inline fuse replaced and holder cleaned, related wiring serviced. Alternator belts re-tensioned. Inline filter added to windshield washer fluid system. Front wheel bearings re-torqued. Lube, oil & filter change.

9/26/2000 – Replaced front brake rotors and pads. Replaced stock springs with IPD overload springs. Replaced remainder of stock suspension bushings with IPD polyurethane bushings.

7/25/2000 – Replaced stock sway bars with IPD sway bars and polyurethane end link bushings.

6/14/2000 – Replaced driveshaft U-joints and related parts.

6/9/2000 – Four-wheel alignment performed.

5/1/2000 – Replaced cracked windshield with newer model.

1/12/2000 – Performed 150k mile major service tune up, oil change, etc. Installed aftermarket trunk mounted luggage rack.

9/13/1999 – Replaced timing belt and idler, replaced front crank seal. Replaced front brake rotors and pads. Replaced rear brake pads and turned rotors. Replaced ignition coil.

8/24/1999 – Repaired overdrive relay. Rotated tires. Repaired neutral safety switch for reverse lights. Lube, oil & filter change.

4/15/1999 – Shocks/struts replaced (have since been replaced with Bilsteins). Replaced damaged engine belly pan.

4/6/1999 – Lube, oil & filter change.

1/25/1999 – Replaced wiring harness, ECT sensor, flame shield, and air mass meter (has since been replaced with refurbished unit).

12/15/1998 – Lube, oil & filter change.

I think a lot of the "known" 240 issues have been address if not once, twice in her life. She runs good but tranny is slipping out of overdrive again and she starts hard when she's cold. But she always starts. Sometimes she screaches loudly when starting. Any info you folks may have feel free to let me know.

Nice to have found this site. It was actually recommended to me from a friend of mine who is a fellow Volvo lover.
