Volvo 240 Rear Brake Caliper Question regarding bracket 200

On all 240's 7?-1993 on the rear calipers there is a brakcet that is on the right side when you have removed the car and are looking at the caliper. This piece is held on with a 15mm? bolt. It does not seen to have any function other than maybe absorb vibration?

Any guesses?
