erratic idle 200

1978 244, 4 spd. o/d. Recent work done was a new clutch. While driving perfectly fine down the road, it acted as though it was running out of gas. The rpm's will go high to low when trying to move. It will idle "ok" at times. I've checked the relays, fuel pumps, but have not totally ruled out a fuel issue. I can hear the pumps working, but could it be a coil that went out suddenly? Any tips and ideas would be greatly appreciated!
