Multilink to straight axle? 900 1997

Does anyone have any information on whether or not you can fit a 7 or 9 series straight axle into a 97 960 with the transverse leaf IRS. I have a customer who is looking for getting a taller than 3.73 gears in the back and as far as I can see 3.73 is the only gears offered by Volvo in the 95-98 IRS. So if the mounting points, etc. are all still there on the 97 960 then he'd want to bolt in a 3.31 straight axle. Any info here well be greatly appreciated!
