240 windshield rubber seal 200

Please confirm or correct this:

Sometime late in the 240's life (I would guess around 1990/1991) the windshield rubber seal lost the chrome (or black on turbos) trim piece. The solid rubber looks much cleaner, and, of course, there's no extra trim piece to lose it's color or corrode or whatever. Also, when scraping ice or frost, there's no little clip to hit the scraper on!

Anyway, I seem to remember some conversation a while back that said that the late series seal will work on any year (ie, it can be retrofitted to an older car like my '82).

True?
