I asked a question the other day on this job, and can't locate the post. So, I will ask again. I have done 5-6 of these over the years, but it has been two years, so I have forgotten all the little tricks to installing a timing belt.
The problem I remember having the most is getting the marks (especially the one on the crank) at the correct TDC. I know to pre-load the tensioner while slipping the belt over the pulleys. But since there are two TDC'S on a fourstroke engine, how do you know if you are at the correct one other than the fact that it won't start. But, if the timing mark on the belt is on the bottom of the crank pully, and the mark is straight up, how do you ever know for sure if the marks on the crank pulley and the belt line up? Any advice would be much appreciated.
