960 or 940? 900

Hello Everyone,

First off, let me say that I have really enjoyed reading all of the different posts on this forum! I am an avid Volvo lover, starting from the car I learned to drive in, a 1986 wagon. That little four banger had 160K on the odo when we sold it, and it was still going strong. My parents have had numerous Volvo's since then from the 960, then S90, and currently an S80. I recently purchased for my wife a 2004 S60 and we have been nothing but impressed! In the near future I am going to be driving from GA to NC twice a week and my Silverado just isn't going to cut it with the gas mileage. So I am going to buy a Volvo, but my budget is a little tight. I have read the issues with the 960 series, and I have read the issues with the 940 series, and I am having trouble making a decision. My budge is no more than $5K, and I can get a 1996 960 with 100K or so miles for that, or a 940 with about the same mileage for considerably less than that. I want this car to last for 250K since it is going to be on the highway, and I would like to do most of the work myself. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance,
Boatdreamin
