Running a rebuilt D24T Diesel on the bench 700

Hi Guys;

I'm finishing up my diesel rebuild. It's cold as hell here in NYC and I don't
want to do things twice in case I screwed something up. First diesel for me but it went very smooth.

I think, a while back, I read a post from Badge988. In it you mentioned running
your rebuilt engine on the bench.

How did you do that? I'd like to check the compression and do that too. How did you get the timing set without connecting the transmission? As the timing window is in the Tranny Bellhousing.

Also; I have the the ZF4P22 transmission. Can this engine be run with the auto
transmission flex plate alone or will I need to find a Standard Flywheel someplace?

I can figure out a cooling water hookup but precise timing has me puzzled. As all you diesel owners know; Precise timing is an absolute must on these engines.

Any other hints will be really appreciated!!

Thanks
