Hi,
I have a 92 740 Turbo Wagon with 103,000 on the clock, It never has been very fast (90mph top speed) but I could live with that as the police are not too happy with people going that fast to start with. Anyhow, The water pump decided to self distruct recently and as luck would have it I was only 2 mins away from my friendly mechanic.
The water pump was replaced, along with the head gasket, skimmed the head, new inlet and exhaust manifold gaskets, new shims to set valve clearances, new belts etc... Trouble is, now it won't do more than 50mph before running out of power. Fuel economy has gone through the roof too. Replaced the knock sensor, and the cat (as per brickboard recomendations) no differance at all. Fuel injectors are ok as it starts and idles fine. Only when it is under load does it burn loads of fuel and run poorly.
Can anybody help please as we have run out of things to check?
