Thinking out a 242GT... Opinions appreciated :-) 200

Hi all,
I am considering a 242GT project and want to hear some opinions whether its worth it or not.

I currently have a 1985 240GL, which has been set up basically as an audio car, as a demo for my audio installing 'company'. It rides really smoothly, and is a comfortable cruiser. HOWEVER! i am thinknig about going completely the other way and purchasing a 1980 242GT, manual trans with less than 150000 on the clock and in mint condition. The guy is asking about $5000AUD, but i can prolly talk him down. Ideally id want to turn it into more of a 'race' car but on a realtive budget, ie: minor engine work, suspension, stripped interior, seats, cage, basically, making a rough-as-guts 242 that could be nice around a motorkhana track.

IS it worth it? Or will i be left with a hole in my wallet and another slug. Anyone who has any experience/ideas, id love to hear.
Cheers, Chris.
