Finally got back to checking my 740 no start problem. Started with rough idle then died. I want to see if you experts agree with my problem. I'm concerned that it may be something else and die on me again will on the road instead of the driveway.
Fuel pump relay and fuel flow (at FPR) checked OK. Great spark from coil but no spark at plug. Swapped good coil and power stage from other Volvo and no go. Pulled distributor (replaced about 1.5 years ago) and voltage measurements good on at hall connector. With ignigtion on and turning vanes on distributor can hear injectors buzzing as pass each vane.
So all sounds good. I decide to reconnect hall connector and take measurements from back of connector, pulling rubber boot back. I find some cracked insulation and separate the wires thinking maybe there was some arcing going on, or short. I put everything back together, fires on one cylinder and then smooths out and purrs like a kittens (probabably cylinders flooded from no ignigition).
Do think the wiring was my problem, or should I be looking else where? Don't want to take it on the road and have it die again. I will put electrical tape on the wires at the cracked insulation.
Thanks for any advice
