Grinding Noise From Under the car 700 1990

Hi,

I have a 1990 760 GLE (V6) with 190K miles. Since a couple of months ago I have started to hear a grinding noise and vibration from the bottom of the car. It sounds like it's coming from the trasmission or U-Joint area in the middle of the car. It only happens when I start to go from a complete stop and the harder I take off the worse and louder it is. As soon as the car gets going the sound stops. It's also worse when I make a left turn as I take off.

What could it be? Any ideas? Someone told me that these cars don't have U-Joints but something similar to a CV joint. Is that true? Could it have gone bad? How expensive is it to replace? Thanks for all the advice in advance.
