Rearview mirror cover :How to take off without breaking it? 200

How do i get the plastic cover off that covers the rearview mirror? i have been told to carefully grip it and pull back towards me. i have broken 3 of them in the junkyard testing this out before i tried my own. i see how they attach, but how do you get it off without breaking it? thanks in advance.
