Making an Engine Wiring Harness 200 1981

Hello All,

I culled all clean, fresh, appropriately colored interior Wiring, Black Plastic Sleeves, and Gray Connectors from various Volvos at the Wrecking Yard (free).

Yesterday, I bought Female Spade Connectors, Solder, and Heat Shrink Tubing, costing $13.33 for the items, as compared to the $1,000 the local Volvo Dealershit quoted.

The various electronic parts stores do not sell the Female Connectors inside the Gray Connector. Or, the ones that are available have Red or Blue Plastic on them.

Also, I pulled one of the old Female Connectors out of the soft white insulating and retaining shroud, inside the Gray Connector. It seems they are somehow glued or adhered to the Wire's insulation. The Female Connector with strands of wire will pull free, but leaves the insulation behind and still attached inside the soft white insulating and retaining shroud.

Unless someone has a better idea, I have decided to use spare Female Connectors from the Gray Connector, with about 2 inches of wire still attached. I will strip the Insulation, slip Heat Shrink Tubing over, twist the wires together in a parallel fashion, and solder them for positive connection, slip the Heat Shrink over the top of the bare wire and solder joint.

It will not be 100% factory original, but pretty close.

Anyone have better ideas?
