Advice about kickdown cable 200 1989

I'm replacing the kickdown cable on the wifemobile. I got the OEM cable (Gemo) from FCP, though their website only showed the Scantech part. It cost me $40, more than Scantech, but I don't want to do it again next year.

Is there anything I need to be careful of, apart from the mess that I'm liable to make on my garage floor? The Bentley shows some procedure with a screwdriver, but the illustration isn't very helpful. Is this procedure pretty self-evident?

Are there any nice tips to keep me from spilling ATF all over the place when I drop the pan?

Lastly, should I use gasket cement when I replace the pan gasket?
