I have a 1990 740GL. Purchase it used two years ago, form another family, who took care of it, records and all. It had 145K on it then. Now with 199K. It is our only family vehicle. We have been looking for a second Newer Volvo lately.

About 6 months after we bought it after troubleshooting myself, verified the fuel pump (regina) was defective, No in tank hum. THERE WAS NO TURN OF THE ENGINE AT ALL, key to my current problem!

This was after replacing plugs, wires (except coil wire, aftermarket places, keep giving me wrong one), fuel filter, cleaning trottle body, and injectors. At that time, I saw what I now know as the Flame trap full of oil, clogged. I tried to clean it by hand. After finally breaking down, getting it to the shop they replaced the fuel pump, and it has worked good most of the time.
We have now moved about 200 miles north of 1st problem. Summer are same temps, but winters are about 5-10 degrees cooler on an avg. night. I work overnight, and far away.

Since mid-summer car(92-105 degrees), has intermittently starts, or re-started after being turned off. Freakily, corrected itself during winter.

Since weather has began warming up 60's, the engine CRANKS, BUT WON'T START. If I spray starting fluid into throttle body (was dirty again), car will normally start, and drive until turning it off, manually. It has never cut off while driving, and only twice while sitting idle (idle drops out).

I have replaced wires (no coil wire again), rotor, plugs, Flame trap, oil filler gasket, swapped Fuel suppressor relay with Radiator fan, resolder fuel pump relay, even though it checked good, reset loose temp sensor(air hose), and adjusted throttle body idle. Failed to mentioned it takes a 2-4 times to crank with starter fluid to get the idle up high enough to drive.
