940t Sedan - Buy or Not to! for Daughter. 900 1994

Hello to all,

Two weeks ago I started looking for a used volvo in the ads for my daughter, a first time driver. This 1994 940t blue sedan with 95,600 miles caught my attention advertised reliable. First, the asking price was 6K then was dropped to 5k after a week of no taker(I believe) so there I went.

When I saw the car it was net & newly carwashed, I talked to the owner and tried to gather some information about the history of the car. This is what I found out: no maintenance record, radiator newly replaced recently, evaporator is new and he use Jeffy lube to do the regular oil changed. I did test drive the car and I concluded that it's just a little bit faster compared to my 87 240dl w/ 210k miles. The bulb warning light on the panel went flashing when I'm making a left turn with my foot on the brakes, service light went on too.

Next,I opened the hood and noticed the engine bay is sparkling clean (steamwashed) so I could not tell if the engine or other mechanical parts leaks or not. The engine oil is somewhat dirty to me or maybe I'm not used on looking to Dino oil anymore because my two volvo uses synthetic oil, transmission fluid & gear oil forever since they were new. One thing that shocked me is when I removed the transmission dipstick to check the fluid and there I saw a light brown/tan color dripping in my finger instead of a bright reddish color of a fresh fluid(Is this a pure plain neglects or a sign of a major problem that I'm not familiar with). I told him point blank that it seems that it was not changed ever at all and the owner kinda hesitant to answer. Driver leather set also had a hole/cracks a deterioration from constant seating on, a big dent on the left hand side of the body near the back bumper and a dent on the front bumper.

At the end his asking price went down to 4500 from the 6k he advertised two weeks ago, i dont know if from desperation from descarding it because he said they just bought a new SUV for his growing family and also tax time.

My question is, is it worth 4.5k or am I making a big risk? disregarding it's artificial blemishes, semi dirty/dirty oil and brownish trans. fluid that disturbed me that maybe attributed to non mechanically inclined owner(I hope not careless), it's a nice looking car very rigid and stable when I test drove it plus it has a very cold air cond. I believe I can offer him 4K on it too.

Pls. guide me for my daugher. Thanks!
