I just bought a 240 turbo wagon as a project car to sell, and upon looking at it, I suspect someone did some aftermarket performace upgrades on it. From what I can see, the car was overall well taken care of, but what makes me think it has upgrades is that someone installed a pyrometer, (exhaust gas temp) mechanical oil pressure gauge, and also the turbo is a water cooled unit which seems to have been installed later. The engine seems to have a thrown rod, so I am replacing it with a junkyard engine, but was curious what I should look for in the way of engine parts to save and mabey sell. Obviously the turbo, but what other modifications would be likely?? Camshaft?? How can I tell if it's stock or not? Also, why a pyro?? I know they are used quite often on diesels (in fact it's going on my diesel pickup) but why would you put one on a gasser? I think I have heard of using them if you're messing with the mixture, but how could you do that with a k-jetronic?? Higher fuel pressure, mabey??
Also, any obvious suspension upgrades to look for?? My plans for this car are to replace the engine and sell the car, so I'd like to know what exactly it has. Also, I want to save all the engine performace parts and either build another engine or sell them.
Thanks - John
