I'm having an issue with my alternator. It's an externally regulated bosch unit from a 75 164.
One of the three round metal plugs pressed into the back of the alternator has vibrated loose. The diodes inside are soldered to the plugs. It is now loose and will not stay in. The plug has a knurled edge, but the hole is now too big for an interference fit.
In case it's unclear, I am not talking about the wiring. The three round plugs are pressed flush into the black portion of the rear of the alternator. I never knew they were there until my charging became intermittent and i saw it hanging out the back.
Any suggestions aside from getting a new case or alternator?
I thought about putting JB Weld on one edge and pressing it back in. It does need to ground the diode to the case.
Any one ever had this happen?
thanks,
