Coolant pump removal questions 200 1987

Greetings; I've successfully removed my old shot coolant pump. The areas on the head where the new gasket and "O" ring are supposed to go have a lot of crud built up. Bentley says to clean it thoroughly. With what?? Can you recommend the right solvent or degreaser for this? Also, my brand new Hepu coolant pump from FCPGroton does not have the four fan pulley studs. Do I recycle the old ones or is it better to purchase new ones? How do you get the old ones out of the old coolant pump?
