Intercooler Installation Questions: Need Clarification. 1981 200 1981

Soon I'll be helping my son install an intercooler from an 85 244 Ti donor onto his 81 GLT. There's one part of the installation I'm still not understanding.

On the donor car a hose went from the hardpipe on the driver's side near the air sensor to a solenoid on the passenger fender, then out of the solenoid to a "T" in the hose. One hose from the "T" went to the wastegate actuator, the other went across the engine bay to the driver's side hardpipe after the intercooler.

1. As an alternative to this set-up, the TurboBricks site shows a 45-inch long vent hose (I assume this is the one that goes to the hole in the hardpipe by the air sensor.) to a "T" with a 7 inch hose to the actuator, and another 45-inch hose off the "T" to the hardpipe nipple after the IC. It says to adjust Turbo boost to 10 PSI by making the vent hose shorter, but to shorten it no more than three inches at a time. I assume this means that the shorter the vent hose, the higher the maximum boost. Am I understanding this correctly?

2. Another alternative that was suggested on this Board was to just run a hose from the wastegate actuator directly to the IC hard pipe nipple on driver's side, and to plug the hole in the passenger side hardpipe. With this method, is boost controlled by the length of the hose also?

I just need your suggestions and clarifications on these two alternatives. Advantages/disadvantages? It's our first Turbo, so we're just starting to learn about this stuff. Thanks in advance.
