I posted a week ago in regards to oil consumption (1/2 quart/200 miles high speed, nothing in town) with no visible leaks, 1987 240, 235K.
To update, they changed the oil and replaced the flame trap and a vacuum hose (I assume the one connected to the flame trap). Various seals showed some signs of weepage but nothing out-of-the ordinary for a high-mileage car, and they said it actually looks dryer than most they see at that age. The total bill was $ 65.
Since that day though, it is actually leaking oil, especially after driving it at high speed. Have not gone on a longer trip yet but will this week and I am not sure how worried I should be. The stain under the car is about the diameter of a coke can and is a 2-3 inches behind the oil dran plug, at the end of the oil pan. It is engine oil and not ATF.
Is it just coincidence that it is leaking after the oil change? I checked the plug and the oil filter and they seem to be dry. How bad a weep is this? Can it turn catastrophic over the next 1000 highway miles? Can I just keep an eye on it and a case of oil in the trunk? Among the "weepages" they listed: RR crankshaft seal, oil trap o-ring, rear circular cam plug. Any of these easy to fix?
No money for major repairs, but gotta go out of town. How stupid am I?
