Valve guide lubrication, or not.... 700 1986

How is the oil getting to valve guides to
keep them and the valves lubricated ?
I've been studying this, and can't make
logical sense of it. If it's supposed to be
gravity fed from the top, where the tappets
are, why isn't the oil dropping down into
combustion chamber and burning up
continually ? Are there any secret oil
passages ?
