The car is my 1990 744T with 116K. I rarely drive this car during the winter, but I usually manage to drive it 10-20 minutes every 3-4 weeks. Previous weekend, I started it for only a few minutes in the evening to make sure the battery was up to my use the following day (warmer, no snow, ambient about 35) - no problem. Started immediately and ran strong. The next morning, it turned over, "burped" a few times, then would only crank with what sounded like 1 or 2 plugs firing, then back to turning over only.
I had replaced the AMM and cat last fall. In the past week I have switched the crank position sensor, the "interference" relay, and the FI relay with new ones, and even checked the ones from the 744 in my 945 - all worked fine. The main fuel pump "humms" and I can hear the in-tank pump thru the filler. Cam turns and there are only 1-1-1's from the OBD in position 2 and 6 (Bosch system). Indy shop said fouled plugs, but I can't imagine that it would happen so suddenly, overnight with no decrease in performance over the winter. I tried their "fix" - pulled fuse #1 and cranked to "dry" them, with no change. The only difference I noticed through all this was: when I replaced the crank position senser, it would fire maybe 10 times rather than 3 or 4, but then would return to only cranking. The only things I can think of now are: a fuel problem, the O2 sensor (even though 1-1-1), or a tow truck.
Sorry about the length of this post, but too often relevant info is left out. Any ideas/thoughts/help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks...
