Another tunning question? Timming, dwell, idle... 140-160 1972

Hello again,

Well after the last post about point gap and dwell, I got a new set of points today and hooked up the dwell meter to solve all my problems......not quite.

I was able to set the dwell to specs simply enough and I disconnected and plugged the old vacume retard system. Then in order to get the timming up around 10-12 degrees the idle was 1200-1500 RPM's and I had the idle adjustment screw bottomed out (fuel injected motor). I was unable to keep the idle down to something reasonable with the timming any more advanced than 5 deg.

What is going on? I don't think I should have to run around with the idle adjustment screw bottomed out should I? A vacume leak is unlikely as I replaced most all the vacume/air lines when we got the car a few months ago.

My only though is that the gizmo bolted to the side of the head with the two large hoses running into and out of that provides the air durring idle while the butterfly is closed is somehow leaking or otherwise not working properly. Is this the aux air valve?? How do I test it/ fix it?

Thanks for the help and if any of this isn't clear I can clairify,
Wayne
