Need help with persistent brake light problem 740 GL sedan 700

I am having a problem that I have been unable to diagnose and would like to prevail upon your expertise.
On my 89 740 GL sedan the bulb out indicator is on whenever I step on the brake or turn on the headlights.
Headlights checked and operate correctly.

The left rear brake light appears to be the problem. It is always on with or without depressing the pedal when the head or parking lights are switched on.

I have had both tail light assemblys out and cleaned all circuit board contacts and checked grounds. I have replaced bulbs with new matched ones.
I also tried switching the brake light socket itself with one from another light as well as from the right side with no difference.

Have even switched the entire light assembly with different circuit board to no avail.

The right brake light and rear window brake light function properly.

It seems that left brakelight circuit is being completed by switching on the parking or headlights.

Is it possible that the brake light switch is malfuntioning on only one side?

Any advise greatly appreciated!

Kind Regards,

Maui
