122 Rear wheel bearings 120-130

Bought brakes all the way round (cuz of a squealing noise in the rear).
Went to pull rear hubs.
Need special tool.
None available.
Made one. (Thanks brickboard!)
Looks ugly, works great.
Found that it's not the brakes, it's the bearings(s).
Need ANOTHER special tool to pull axle shaft. (slide-hammerish type...)
None available. No automotive tool rentals available in my area.
Frustration sets in...

Question: At this point is it worth it to still try and do it myself (bearing/seal replacement) or should I take it in to a shop.
