My daughter's 1986 240 was overheating while cliimbing long hills. I took the fan unit off. Curisoity got to me so I took it apart to see what was inside. A big gear, some oil and some passages that are apparently controlled by the thermostat coil on the front. The shaft that the thermostat coil is hooked to wouldn't rotate . I used a screwdriver tip to provide a little more torque to it and it freed up so it turns easily now.
Questions. Should I expect it to work again now or get stuck again shortly? Is there a good replacement option? This one is from the junk yard and lasted less than two years. Can anybody explain to me just how this thing works? Seems interesting. Can I clean it out and reoil it? How do I test the thermostat?
