Hi everyone,
Today the following happened:
1. After a hard start, drove car about 5 minutes, after which it seemed jerky and the engine stumbled.
2. After about 20 minutes I returned to the car. No start, or after cranking a lot it started but then died.
3. Called breakdown co., could not diagnose. Checked that petrol is being pumped to before FPR, and that spark is present at plugs.
4. When momentarily running, the engine first ran rough, then smooth, when taking foot off accellerator it died. The guy said the fan wheels were spinning in reverse as it stalled.
I replaced the original Fuel Pump Relay a few months ago, and resoldered the Radio Suppression Relay. The breakdown guy said he thought the timing was off, but I thought you could not adjust timing on these engines. I should mention that occasionally I have had a starting problem, mostly when engine hot, but sometimes when cold. Plugs, leads and distributor in reasonable shape.
Any ideas? Could it be something catastrophic or just a component. The car has done about 80K miles, could it be the timing chain?
The car got towed back to my home. I am tempted to have the car taken in to the local Bosch service garage tomorrow unless you guys come to my rescue.
Any help will be much appreciated.
Happy Easter anyway.
