AW55, AW70 Torque converter compatability 200 1977

I just purchased an AW70 transmission off craigslist in preperation for a transmission swap (tired of that high-revving freeway driving!). The 'new' transmission did not come with a torque converter and i am wondering if the one on my car's AW55 will fit. Any words of wisdom regarding this conversion? The car is a '77 244 california model. I am hoping I can use the original shifter as the newer ones with the integrated OD button just don't look as nice.
