Greetings,
Having read posts regarding catastrophic timing belt tensioner failure I am considering replacing mine.
I understand the risk associated with an interference engine.
The sticker on my 965 indicates that the PO changed the timing belt at 83K miles and I'm only up to 94K. I have no record to indicate that the tensioner was replaced at that time. I don't have any visual indication that anything is amiss, but I'm feeling paranoid about it and it does concern me.
It the roller on the tensioner something that can be greased or lubricated in any way? Or is replacement the only option?
Is there a way to check the tensioner without removing the timing belt entirely? Without the belt jumping a notch? I just want to spin that roller and see if it rolls smoothly and quietly.
I see the FCP Groton website offers a replacement tensioner for $92.00 and then just the roller for $50-something. Would it be wise to just put a new roller on an what may be an old tensioner?
Thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to read this and chime in.
