A/C replacement part advice 900 1991

I used on of those cheap R134a conversion kits from the local auto store, and sorely disapointed. I was going to replace it with the Volvo R134a kit, but I can buy a kit with compressor for 230.00.

The question is, with 220,000 miles (and I'm going to keep it until it dies), should I consider spending the extra money for the compressor, or can I expect the original to go for another 50 to 100K and spend the money on new A/C lines (hoses). My system has leaks and I've heard that the the lines leak with age.

Thanks for your info,

Gary
