Hi guys....bought me 1997 960 sedan back in October and right away had the TB and alt. belts updated, good, right?! I had relocated so I went to an indy mechanic on a kind of sort of reference whose name I will skip. He did what I asked, but in no timely fashion, and when I left his shop I then had me a "whiny-squeely-echo" (sorry) upon acceleration and a severe lack of power- limiting me to aboout 80mph and no passing power at all...
So I went back and he gave me a song & dance and said it was exhaust and I
had just not noticed said noise previously yada yada so stop payment upon the check seee yaaa el jack-ass. I made the trek to my former guy who didn't have time to address my car but thought it might be exhaust, but he could not say for certain.
So thinking it may be exhaust I let it go and went the winter using my wife's FWD car mostly and now it is time to fix it. So I had two different guys check out the exhaust & the spooky noise and they both said it is NOT exhaust, but
emanating from the motor, and upon hearing the aforementioned TB tale of woe said to check out the timing and the belt, that it may be off 2-3 teeth and or
installed wrong somehow..
Is this scenario possible and how?
What are the repercussions to driving the car like this?
What is the fix, is that belt still usable, and not that I will be doing,
but just to know.....
Thanks- Mike!
