Another fuel gauge question 444-544

My ’52 PV444 has been converted from 6V to 12V and to get the fuel gauge working properly, I added an 82 Ohm resistor in series with the gauge power input lead (as advised by Ron Kwas). Though it seems to be working allright, the gauge is rather inaccurate, because when the needle points to “empty”, the tank is still half full.
What’s the solution? Increase the length of the rod on the tank sender? Or should I try a different resistor?
