should the AMM/MAS be hot to the touch? 700

the 740 is having problems running as of recently. i ran the fault codes and it came back to the AMM. i unplugged and it ran a little better so i know my problem starts here. but when i was messing with it it was hot to the touch. is the normal. i have read a little bit and saw there is a thermostat for it. so i need to look into and correlation there. thanks
