Hi guys. I've been reading this forum for a while but this is my first post. I just bought a 1979 242DL and it's having some problems cold starting. Starts strong and fast when warm. When I start it up after it has sat overnight it cranks longer than normal and it will usually die after a couple of seconds of rough idle. I can start it back up but again the idle will be very rough and will sometimes die again. It can take up to 3-4 starts to get it running in the morning and the idle doesn't even out until the engine warms up.
The other oddity is that the temp gauge never registers normal even when the motor is warmed up. Its sits dead even between cold and normal. After reading on this forum I've come to think it could be a lot of different things...The problem is, this is my first volvo and I dont know what parts are not on my car but are on newer 240s. I am pretty sure my car has K-Jetronic injection...The car has 212k miles on it, so I was thinking that maybe the injector seals are the problem? Maybe the injectors themselves? But if it was the injectors, wouldn't it idle rough regardless of temp?
Also mentioned is the fuel pressure regulator / control pressure regulator...What is this? I can't find that part on IPD's site. I should mention that I noticed I dont have a preheat hose attached on my car...I'm not sure if that would be causing a problem like this, I doubt it. Also, I am completely missing my flame trap. The housing is there, but there is no flame trap in it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. THANKS!
