I need to replace the driver's seat in my '88 244. (The lumbar support and side-bolster foam are shot, and replacing it is cheaper and easier for me than fixing it.) I've had no luck in finding a replacement from a 240 without having to buy an entire parts car, which I can't do for practical and financial reasons.
I've found a guy selling a pair of great seats from an E36 (late-1980s) BMW. But he's told me the distance between the seat-rail bolts is different; in the BMW, the distance betweeen the left bolt and right bolt is 18 inches, and between front and rear bolt is 15 inches. I measured on my brick, and side to side between bolts is 15 inches. (Haven't checked the fore-aft yet.)
Is there a way I could get this to work? How hard is it to drill new bolt-holes in the floor pan and plug the old ones? If I can get just one side to line up, could I bolt those in and skip the other side?
Thanks very much for any advice!
