88 240 Valve job 200

Hello Everyone Had some work done recently on my 240 car was running rough and not charging. Took it to a highly recommended mechanic however he freely admitted that Volvos were neither his specialty nor was he interested in having to work on them too extensively. He fixed the charging problem (loose wire connections) and ran a compression test which showed 2 normal(150) and 2 (adjacent) bad reading about 80. He told me that he thought there was valve problems rather than rings. Car runs pretty bad yet, idles rough and stalls out as it comes to a stop occasionally and I was wondering about cost of valve jobs or is there possibly another problem. I live in the middle of salt /snow region and this cars body is nearly rust free so if I don't have to put a lot of $ in maybe I'll bite the bullet and get the valve job done. I didn't pay too much for the car $-500 and up until about a month ago it was running fine. Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
