Got the head back on and torqued/angled down, all the intake side stuff back on, and the exhaust manifold in place today (only held in by one stud/nut and the T-bracket nut). New water pump mounted, but not snugged up against head yet, nor tightened down. New seals in crank, intermediate, and camshafts. Pulled the cam, just to double check the oil passages to the cam for debris left from resurfacing the head. Did find a little that the routine cleaning of the head oil passages did not get out. Lubed cam and associated stuff generously with Redline Assembly Lube and put cam back, poured Castrol on it until the oil galleys around each pair of valves were full. Applied the valve cover gasket with just a touch o' Hylomar at the critical places and closed the head up. Put the new Bosch platinums in 'cause it is easier without the heat shields on.
Spent way too much time trying to replace both O-rings on the oil filter adapter. Replaced to one between the adapter and the block, but couldn't get the big nut off the oil filter mounting stud so I could replace the one between the adapter and the thermovalve/connection to cooler. Oh, well, I can always drop it at the dealer if it leaks there, and let them play with it. BTW, I did have the right size deep socket, but the amount of torque I was applying was ripping my neighbor's workbench top off (I've got no vice, he does) and I was concerned about damaging the adapter, so gave up.
Also spent 45 minutes this morning dodging and then gassing wasps who have decided that my Volvo is now their home.
Tomorrow: Exhaust and turbo, snug up and tighten new water pump, close up cooling system and refil, put on crank pulley, new timing belt, new timing belt tensioner roller, close up timing belt covers. Put on a/c, ps, and alternator belts, put on fan and shroud. Borrow battery from RX-7 (Volvo needs new battery). Pray like hell.
Oh, yeah, somewhere in there tomorrow - take trash to dump, get to veterinarian to pick up Rimadyl for dog, fight with wife, feed and walk three dogs twice, etc.
