help! Voltage regulator for fuel guage/temp guage 140-160

i need to know where to find one. i know that the guages are supposed to run on 10vdc, and thats what the guage is for. I replaced the guages in the vehicle, hoping that they may be the problem, with ones from a junk car, and replaced the voltage regulator with one from the same car. horay!, it worked....at least i think it did. i had a full tank, and it read "full" and the engine was stone cold by the time i got the stupid things installed., so the temp. guage was reading cold. I started the car and drove it foward, trying to turn around in my driveway and the guage started acting funny when i reached under the dash amongst the wiring to re-attatch the spedomoter cable, which i had forgotten to do. the wiring for the fan switch and the hazard lights crackled, i'm not sure if it was from dry plastic insulation, or electrical spark, i'm guessing it was electrical because the guage reading floated down to about half and dancee a bit. i drove the car and the guage red sporatically, it seemed to read higher when the gas in the tank would be in the right side from driving around a corner or on a grade or when i was stopping and it would be in the front of the tank. the thing eventually stopped reading and started leaning to the left of where it used to rest and there was a burning smell. i looked later at the original guage and the little metal piece inside that controls the reading was bent out of shape a bit and had that blue overheaded color to it. the paint in the area on the face was shiny, i think due to heat. the temperature guage was the same way. again, these were the old guages that were on the car. I am assuming that this is what happens when the guages get ruined because the voltage regulator fails. Therefore, my questions are two-fold: (1) where can I find a new voltage regulator? (2) can I just bend the metal peice back and have the guage still work again, or is the conductive or heating qualities of the metal ruined?
