Cooling system question 200 1985

I fitted my '85 244Ti with a Nissens 3-row a while back, and changed the thermostat at the same time (darned if I can remember the rating, tho). If you think of the temp gauge as half of a clock with 7:00 representing 'HOT' and 11:00 representing 'COLD', then my temp gauge used to sit at 9:00 with the engine fulled warmed up. However, since installing the new radiator and thermo it rarely ever creeps past 8:00 and if I turn the heater on, the needle is nearly resting at 'COLD' (7:00).

Normal with the Nissens, or wrong thermo?

Bad gauge? Gauge does hit 9:00 with the A/C on and a load on the engine (e.g. uphill at 70 mph in OD). Used to hit 10:00 in these conditions.

Could I possibly damage the engine by running it on the 'cool' side?

Thanks,
Charles
