hello there,
i am a new guy to this forum . you all seem to know a whole heck of a lot of good info. i owned a 1992 240 wagon and am currently looking at a 1987 240 dl wagon. the car hasnt been driven or started for a year. the other day i attempted to jumpstart the car . when i connected the jumper cables the casing of a wire leading to the alternator began to smoke and melt. i removed the cables and tried another set . the other set of cables eliminated the smoking wire, heard the engine crank a few times, but still couldnt get the car started.
i plan to buy a new battery and give the car a chance to start up. i was wondering if any of you could tell me what else i should do for this car since it hasnt been driven for so long. oil, filter, gas ? spark plugs ? any feedback would be greatly appreciated. the car was parked outside while dormant and exposed to pennsylvania weather.
thanks a lot,
andy
