Starter replacement 200

I have a starter that doesnt always engages the teeth on the flywheel all the way, I think its the seleniod. So I heard that i can go to any auto wrecking yard and pull one off just about any 4 cylinder eng. out there and preety much a have the same starter that i have now. Is this true? i don't want to spend the 200 or so to get a rebuilt one. I need to go the cheap route. Thanks for any info you can give derin
