'89 765t - Hood strut replacement questions 700 1989

I thought the hinge was bent on my wagon, but as I took a closer look it seems that one of the struts can do its job anymore so the other one is pushing hard enough to throw everything akilter. I ordered a replacement from FCPGroton, but I can't seem to figure out how to take the current (broken) one off. Anyone do this, and have any tips?
